The Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University (CI@TU) formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Khwopa College of Engineering (affiliated with Tribhuvan University) and Khwopa Engineering College (affiliated with Purbanchal University) for the establishment of Chinese language teaching centers. The signing ceremony was held at the Khwopa College of Engineering in Bhaktapur.

In the ceremony, Dr. Bal Ram Duwal, Nepal-side Director of CI@TU, emphasized the shared institutional commitment to strengthening Chinese language education in Nepal. He noted that the agreement transcends a conventional academic arrangement, positioning Khwopa College of Engineering and Khwopa Engineering College within the global network of Confucius Institutes. Dr. Duwal further underscored that language functions as a medium of communication as well as a bridge linking cultures, economies, technologies, and civilizations. For Nepalese students, particularly in the fields of engineering, technology, business, and tourism, proficiency in Chinese enhances professional competitiveness and broadens access to global opportunities.

Er. Sujan Maka, Principal of Khwopa Engineering College, highlighted the importance of integrating engineering knowledge with language and cultural learning. He emphasized that a deeper understanding of Chinese history and culture is integral to contextualizing Nepal’s own historical trajectory.
On behalf of the Chinese side, Professor Zhang Xingnian, Director of CI@TU, reiterated the Institute’s commitment to providing quality teaching resources, faculty support, and academic assistance to advance Chinese language education in Nepal. He observed that the long-standing ties between Nepal and China, grounded in geography and history, can be further consolidated through educational cooperation.
Similarly, Mr. Sunil Duwal, Principal of Khwopa College of Engineering, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to expanding students’ educational horizons through international collaboration. He articulated that the agreement signifies not only an academic partnership but also a pledge to equip students with linguistic and intercultural competencies essential for future cooperation and global understanding.
Chinese language teacher of CI@TU Mr. Rajendra Chawal stressed the value of Chinese language education for faculty and students, remarking that language acquisition fosters mutual respect and deepens intercultural understanding beyond grammar and vocabulary.
The event was attended by Vice Principals Er. Ratna Shova Prajapati and Dr. Subeg Man Bijukchhen, along with department heads, faculty members, administrative representatives of both engineering colleges, and Chinese language instructors Ms. Luo Jimei and Ms. Bidhya.

The signing of the MOUs marks a significant step in advancing long-term educational collaboration among the three institutions. By pooling resources and expertise, they aim to contribute to talent development, cultural understanding, and regional cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative.
