August 30 2025. Nepal In-Service Training for International Chinese Language Education Volunteers, hosted by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) of China’s Ministry of Education, organized by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, and co-organized by the Nepal Volunteers Home, officially commenced at the Ramada Hotel in Kathmandu. The opening ceremony was attended by over 80 participants, including officials from the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, the CLEC, Nepal’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, as well as international Chinese language education volunteers. Zhang Xingnian, the Chinese Director of the Tribhuvan University Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University (CI@TU), and volunteer teachers from the CI@TU were also actively participated in the training.

At the ceremony, Gong Xu, Deputy Director of the Political News Section of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, spoke highly of the volunteers’ works in Nepal, acknowledging their dedication and spirit of commitment demonstrated in their teaching. She emphasized that the embassy would always serve as their strongest support and warmest harbor, providing robust assistance for their work and life in Nepal.

Shiva Kumar Sapkota, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of Nepal’s Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, expressed gratitude for China’s long-term support for Chinese language education in Nepal and praised the vital role played by volunteer teachers in promoting linguistic exchange and cultural understanding between the two countries.

Yu Tianqi, Deputy Director of the CLEC, reviewed the over-two-decade development of the International Chinese Language Education Volunteer Program in Nepal, recognized the achievements made, and encouraged the volunteers to focus on Chinese language teaching, foster Sino-Nepalese friendship, share cultural stories, and actively document their educational experiences in Nepal.

Following the opening ceremony, the volunteers began a two-day intensive training session. Ni Yifang, a volunteer teacher from the CI@TU, delivered a demonstration lesson as an exemplary representative. Her well-structured lesson design, engaging teaching content, and integration of cross-cultural teaching concepts and practical methods sparked lively discussions among the participants.

This training not only effectively enhanced the volunteers’ professional competence and cross-cultural teaching skills, providing substantial support for the development of Chinese language education in Nepal, but also allowed them to deeply appreciate the power of teamwork and collective growth. CI@TU will continue to actively promote the development of volunteer teachers, facilitate educational exchanges and cooperation between China and Nepal, and contribute to mutual cultural learning and the strengthening of friendly relations between the two countries.
