On August 25, 2025, a delegation from the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University (CI@TU) conducted an official visit to Bhaktapur Municipality, Khwopa College of Engineering, Khwopa Engineering College , Bagiswori College and Bagiswori College of Management, during which several cooperative initiatives were discussed and preliminary agreements were reached.
During the meeting with the Bhaktapur Municipality Government, Zhang Xingnian, Chinese Director of CI@TU, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to visit and highlighted the Institute’s commitment to fostering collaboration in Chinese language instruction and academic research with Nepalese and Chinese partner institutions. In response, Mayor Sunil Prajapati emphasized Bhaktapur’s significance as a cultural and tourism hub in Nepal, noting that China has become the city’s second-largest source of tourists. He underscored the importance of introducing Chinese language courses to enhance tourism services and promote sustainable tourism development, while also stressing the need for strengthened academic linkages with Chinese higher education institutions. Dr. Bal Ram Duwal, Nepalese Director of CI@TU, further elaborated on the cooperation and operational model of the CI@TU.

The delegation subsequently visited Khwopa College of Engineering, where Principal Sunil Duwal and Vice Principal Ratna Shova Prajapati jointly hosted the meeting. Director Zhang presented an overview of CI@TU’s history, faculty expertise, and teaching resources, and expressed readiness to initiate cooperation. Principal Duwal remarked that faculty members and students at Khwopa College already maintain academic ties with Chinese universities, and he affirmed that Chinese language instruction would deepen students’ understanding of China and expand their academic and professional opportunities. The two sides reached an agreement to introduce Chinese language courses for faculty, staff, and students.

The visit concluded at Bagiswori College, where Principal Dhana Kumar Shrestha and Principal Krishna Prasad Dhanchha of Bagiswori College of Management, along with faculty members, extended a warm welcome. They presented the colleges’ academic structures, curricula, and development plans, and conveyed strong interest in launching Chinese language courses with CI@TU’s support. In the meeting, Dr. Duwal Nepalese director emphasized the role of language as a bridge for communication and culture as a foundation for mutual understanding, stressing that such cooperation would broaden students’ global outlook. Chinese Director Zhang expressed gratitude for the invitation and reiterated the Institute’s willingness to advance substantive cooperation in language education, cultural exchange, and academic collaboration. Chinese language instructors Rajendra Chawal and Luo Jimei from CI@TU also participated in the visit.
Overall, this series of engagements strengthened mutual understanding between CI@TU and institutions in Bhaktapur, establishing a solid foundation for future collaboration in Chinese language education, cultural tourism, and academic exchange.
