KATHMANDU, August 24, 2026 — The Embassy of China in Nepal hosted a special farewell ceremony for Nepali students awarded Chinese Government Scholarships for 2026. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal H.E. Zhang Maoming attended the ceremony and encouraged the students to cherish the opportunity to study in China, pursue academic excellence, build lasting friendships and contribute to stronger Nepal–China relations.
In his address, Ambassador Zhang noted that China’s steady progress in modernization and remarkable development achievements have created a high-quality environment for Nepali students pursuing higher education in the country. He described this as a valuable “learning dividend” that would enable them to broaden their horizons, strengthen their abilities and acquire new knowledge and practical skills.

Ambassador Zhang expressed the hope that, after completing their studies, the students would return to Nepal and apply what they had learned to the country’s economic and social development. He also encouraged them to devote their youthful energy and talents to advancing practical cooperation and strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of Nepal and China.
Dr. Bal Ram Duwal, Acting Director of the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University (CI@TU), shared reflections and lessons from his own academic journey in China. Drawing on his experience as a former international student, he encouraged the scholarship recipients to make wise and purposeful use of the opportunities available to them.
Dr. Duwal emphasized that the Chinese Government Scholarship represents a significant investment by the Government of China and Chinese society and therefore carries an important responsibility for its recipients. He urged the students not only to acquire academic knowledge but also to develop practical skills, gain intercultural experience and build meaningful relationships.
He further stressed that the knowledge, experience and friendships gained through education should ultimately be used to serve society and promote greater mutual understanding between Nepal and China. He encouraged the students to regard themselves not merely as scholarship recipients, but as future bridges of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
Representatives from the Nepal–China Education and Cultural Association, CI@TU and the Confucius Institute at Kathmandu University also attended the ceremony. More than 40 participants—including newly selected scholarship recipients and distinguished Nepali graduates who had previously studied in China—gathered to exchange experiences, strengthen friendships and share perspectives in a warm and cordial atmosphere.
The departing students expressed their gratitude and enthusiasm for the educational journey ahead. They pledged to cherish the hard-earned opportunity, study diligently and strive to become capable young professionals. They also expressed their determination to shoulder their responsibilities and contribute to Nepal’s development and the enduring friendship between Nepal and China.
