Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University (CI@TU) has arranged an official visit of Professor Liu Yueming, Dean of the Department of Foreign Language and International Communication at East China University of Technology (ECUT) and founder China-side director of CI@TU to the Bhaktapur Municipality office and higher educational institutions run by Bhaktapur Municipality on August 14, 2025.

The meeting was conducted between Bhaktapur Municipality Mayor Sunil Prajapati, Prof. Liu Yeming and Dr. Bal Ram Duwal Nepal-side Director of CI@TU  and was held at the Mayor’s Office in Bhaktapur.

 

During the meeting, Mayor Prajapati emphasized the importance of further strengthening Nepal–China relations, particularly in education, culture, and tourism. He highlighted Bhaktapur Municipality’s investments in healthcare, education, cultural heritage preservation, and public services. Referring to Bhaktapur’s recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage City, the Mayor noted the growing number of Chinese visitors—both official and private—and expressed optimism for expanding academic and cultural exchanges in the future.

The mayor also introduced the seven higher educational institutions established under Bhaktapur Municipality and outlined plans to establish a municipal university. He expressed readiness to foster meaningful cooperation with ECUT and highlighted the Municipality’s ongoing Chinese Language Training Programs. He further expressed hope for stronger collaboration with the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University (CI@TU), of which ECUT is one of the partner universities from China.

Professor Liu expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome in Bhaktapur and thanked the Municipality for the opportunity to visit Khwopa College, Khwopa Engineering College, Khwopa College of Engineering, Khwopa College of Law, and Khwopa Secondary School. He commended the significant contributions of these institutions and identified potential areas for future cooperation, including electronic engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, and Chinese language studies.

As the founding Chinese Director of CI@TU, Professor Liu expressed his strong commitment to fostering deeper and broader cooperation between the CI@TU and educational institutions in Bhaktapur. 

Deputy Mayor Rajani Joshi and Municipal Executive Member Rabindra Jyakhwo were also present during the meeting.
