2025-08-16

On August 10, a delegation of 11 members led by Ning Qi, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and Vice President of Peking University, visited Tribhuvan University (TU). The delegation was warmly welcomed by Wang Xin, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal; TU Vice-Chancellor Deepak Aryal; Rector Khadga KC; Registrar Kedar Prasad Rijal; deans of relevant faculties; Zhang Xingnian, Chinese Director of CI@TU; and Bal Ram Duwal, Local Director of CI@TU. A symposium was held, chaired by Bal Ram Duwal, Local Director of CI@TU.

During the symposium, Ning Qi noted that this was Peking University’s first visit to Tribhuvan University and a reciprocal visit following Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli’s trip to Peking University in December 2024, where he delivered an important speech. Against the backdrop of the 70th anniversary of China-Nepal diplomatic relations in 2025, this visit aims to initiate a "Dialogue Across the Himalayas" between the two universities, deepen exchanges and cooperation in science, technology, education, and culture, and implement the spirit of the leaders' directives on "strengthening China-Nepal relations" and the Belt and Road Initiative. Ning Qi also introduced Peking University’s history and development, reviewed the establishment of the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University, reaffirmed the key points of Prime Minister Oli’s speech at Peking University, and expressed Peking University’s commitment to advancing future collaboration between the two institutions.

TU leaders also delivered speeches, emphasizing the importance of enhancing university-level cooperation and promoting China-Nepal exchanges. Subsequently, in-depth discussions were held between the Chinese and Nepalese sides. After the symposium, the Peking University delegation, accompanied by the Nepali Director of the Confucius Institute, toured the central campus of Tribhuvan University.

This visit marks a significant Chinese delegation to Nepal facilitated by Tribhuvan University in celebration of the 70th anniversary of China-Nepal diplomatic ties. The Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University played an active role in organizing and coordinating the event, demonstrating its function as a bridge for China-Nepal friendship. Moving forward, the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University will continue to serve bilateral exchanges with a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism, building communication platforms and contributing steadfastly to the cause of China-Nepal friendship.
