On July 24, the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University and the Central Department of Library and Information Science held a signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Zhang Xingnian, Chinese Director of CI@TU, Dr. Bal Ram Duwal, Nepali Acting Director of CI@TU, Dr. Lila Nyaichyai, Head of the Central Department of Library and Information Science, as well as faculty and student representatives.
In their remarks, Prof. Zhang and Dr. Duwal stated that the formalization of this collaboration is a positive response to earlier successful teaching practices. It also injects fresh momentum into the Institute’s efforts to promote localized and multi-tiered Chinese language education. The two sides have successfully completed the first HSK Level 1 course, which received positive feedback and achieved remarkable results.
Dr. Lila Nyaichyai emphasized that in recent years, the department has placed great importance on enhancing students’ and staff members’ international competencies. The introduction of Chinese courses offers students a new opportunity to broaden their academic horizons and strengthen cross-cultural communication skills. She noted the success of the first course and expressed interest in launching an HSK Level 2 class in the next phase, promoting the development of a more systematic and sustainable Chinese curriculum. She looks forward to closer collaboration with the Confucius Institute in teaching, events, and resource sharing, to further empower students.
At the ceremony MoU was signed by Dr. Duwal from CI@TU side and Dr. Nyaichyai from CDLIS side. The signing of this MoU marks a new phase of standardized development for Chinese language courses within the department. Moving forward, the two parties will continue to deepen cooperation in HSK test organization, academic and cultural exchange, helping more Nepali students broaden their global perspectives and strengthen intercultural competence.
