On July 24, the Confucius Institute at TU(CI@TU) and New Summit College (NSC) held a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony at the NSC campus, Shantinagar, Kathmandu. The event was attended by Prof.Dr. Zhang Xingnian, Chinese Director of CI@TU; Dr.Bal Ram Duwal, Nepal side Acting Director of CI@TU; Ajay Prasad Dhakal, Chairperson of NSC; Chokraj Dawadi, Principal of NSC; Rupenda Pokhrel, coordinator; and faculty and student representatives.

Prof.Dr. Zhang Xingnian remarked that cooperation between China and Nepal has deepened in various fields such as infrastructure, cultural tourism, and the digital economy. As a result, the Chinese language is increasingly becoming a vital bridge for mutual understanding and trust between  people of two nations. Mastering Chinese will enhance students’ career competitiveness and international communication abilities. Quoting Confucian classics, he encouraged students to stay determined and persistent in their language learning journey and to strive to become cultural ambassadors of China-Nepal friendship.

Dr. Bal Ram Duwal noted that the MoU represents more than an academic collaboration—it is a bridge linking educational exchange, cultural dialogue, and talent cultivation. He emphasized that the partnership will foster in-depth cooperation in curriculum development, cultural exchange, teaching, and academic research, providing students with richer learning resources and development opportunities.

Chokraj Dawadi highly praised the cooperation, stating that Chinese, as one of the official languages of the United Nations, is gaining popularity among Nepali students. The establishment of the Chinese teaching center with CI@TU will enhance students’ global competitiveness. He expressed gratitude to the Confucius Institute for its strong support and encouraged students to seize the opportunity to study Chinese seriously and explore broader future possibilities.

Following the signing ceremony, Dr. Duwal delivered a special lecture titled “Chinese: A Key to 5,000 Years of Civilization.” Drawing on his personal experiences, he discussed the history of China-Nepal relations, strategies for learning Chinese, and cross-cultural understanding, which sparked enthusiastic responses from the students.

At the ceremony MoU was signed by Dr. Duwal from CI@TU side and Chokraj Dawadi from NCS side. The signing of the MoU marks another significant step for the Confucius Institute at CI@TU in building local Chinese language teaching centers in Nepal. Going forward, the Institute will work closely with NSC to continue offering language courses, cultural activities, and academic exchanges to better serve the language learning needs of Nepali students and deepen China-Nepal educational cooperation.
