On April 18, 2025, the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University (CI@TU) hosted a ceremony to mark the International Chinese Language Day 2025 with the theme "Chinese: A Gift Across Time and Space " which was held at the Central Library of Tribhuvan University. The event was co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Nepal, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under China’s Ministry of Education, and Chinese Plus.
Addressing the ceremony, acting Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University (TU), Prof. Dr. Khadga K.C., hailed the role of the CITU to bolster cultural relations between Nepal and China and viewed that it was one of a prominent and effective achievement made during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Nepal visit back in 2019. He further emphasized in his speech that education and cultural exchange are the cornerstones of the enduring development of China-Nepal relations and spoke highly of the Confucius Institute’s role in promoting these ties.
Welcoming the guests and attendees Dr. Bal Ram Duwal, Nepal-side acting director of CI@TU stated that Chinese Language Day is not only a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of the Chinese language as the bridge not only connecting the countries but also the civilization. He highlighted that through Confucius Institutes, we deepen mutual understanding and continue centuries of Nepal-China exchange.
Luo Xianping, President of East China University of Technology, and Zhao Haixing, President of Qinghai Minzu University, delivered video speeches expressing their wishing for the grand success of the ceremony. In the context of the 70th anniversary of China-Nepal diplomatic relations, Luo Xianping proposed an initiative centered on "empowering Chinese language education through technology" and called for "making Chinese a lasting testament to the friendship between the two nations." Zhao Haixing stated that Qinghai Minzu University would leverage its strengths in multi-ethnic cultural integration and academic disciplines to deepen support in teacher training, academic research, and cultural activities, further enhancing China-Nepal people-to-people exchanges.


In closing, Zhang Xingnian, China-side Director of CI@TU, expressed gratitude to all guests for their support and encouraged continued attention to the development of CI@TU, calling for joint efforts to advance teaching Chinese cultural exchanges between China and Nepal.
Over 200 attendees, including Xie Yu, Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Nepal; Tribhuvan University Vice Chancellor Khadga Bahadur KC; representatives from the education sectors of China and Nepal; Chinese language teachers and students; and overseas Chinese representatives, participated in the event.
In the ceremony, students from SOM-TU presented the mesmerizing Chinese fan dance Xiao, students from CIKU performed a guitar rendition of the Chinese classic Laoshu Ai Dami, sparking a lively sing-along. The CDM-TU and LRI Confucius Classroom performed dances featuring both Chinese and Nepali styles—earned enthusiastic applause. The event concluded with a chorus of Pengyou by students from the Central Department of Library and Information Science at TU, symbolizing the everlasting friendship between China and Nepal and bringing the performances to a perfect close.
Following the performances, guests and participants moved to the cultural experience zone. Activities were structured around four sub-themes: "Writing: The Beauty of Characters" "Reading: The Charm of Literature" "Appreciation: The Breadth of Culture" "Exploration: The Wisdom of Civilization", including calligraphy workshop, reading corner, traditional tea art performance, operatic mask painting, riddle guessing, Touhu and paper cutting. The atmosphere was lively, with attendees actively participating and taking photos to commemorate the experience.
