🌏✨ Successful Completion of the Cultural Exchange Program: Exploring Chinese and Nepalese Traditional Festivals
January 28, 2025 – The Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University (CI@TU) successfully organized the Cultural Exchange Program: Exploring Chinese and Nepalese Traditional Festivals at Tribhuvan University to commemorate the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year). This event served as a vibrant platform for fostering cultural appreciation and mutual understanding between the traditional festivals of China and Nepal, specifically the Spring Festival, Dashain, and Lhosar.
The program brought together students and educators from both nations, creating an engaging atmosphere of learning, collaboration, and celebration. Insightful discussions were conducted by distinguished guests and participants, enriching the exchange of knowledge on cultural traditions and their societal impacts.
Among the notable speakers, Mr. Binod Joshi, Executive Director of the Center for International Relations, TU, provided an in-depth analysis of the socio-economic aspects of Dashain and Lhosar festival of Nepal. Similarly, Dr. Lila Nyaichyai, Head of the Central Department of Library and Information Science, elaborated on the social values and management strategies of large-scale festivals such as the Spring Festival and Dashain festival. Lisha Wang, a Chinese Language Teacher, shared insights into activity and transportation management during the Spring Festival in China. Additionally, Sudarshan Gautam, a student from the Central Department of Library and Information Science teaching point, presented a comparative study of these festivals.
The audience was further entertained by cultural performances delivered by Chinese language students from the Press Council Nepal and the Central Department of Library and Information Science.
Participants actively engaged in interactive cultural sessions, including: Writing “Fu” (Happiness) characters and pasting couplets under the guidance of Jimei Luo, Chinese Language Teacher, creating intricate Chinese knots with Yifang Ni, Chinese Language Teacher and preparing dumplings, blending Chinese and Nepali culinary traditions.
The program commenced with a welcome speech by Prof. Dr. Xingnian Zhang, China Side Director, and was facilitated by Dr. Bal Ram Duwal, Nepal Side Acting Director.
This cultural exchange initiative was successful, providing participants with a deeper understanding of both the similarities and distinctions between Chinese and Nepalese traditions. It also underscored the significance of cultural exchange in fostering international friendship and cooperation.
There was valuable presence of Chinese language teachers, students, and coordinators from various teaching points, including Biswo Bhasa Campus, Shankerdev Campus, the Central Department of Management, the Central Department of Library and Information Science, and the Confucius Center at LRI.
