Faculty and Students of Tribhuvan University Confucius Institute Visit the School of Fine Arts and Design
On the morning of July 10, 2024, a delegation of 11 faculty member and students from the Confucius Institute at Tribhuvan University (TU), Nepal, visited East China University of Technology (ECUT). They were accompanied by Prof. Yu Zhen, director of ECUT’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and Prof. Liu Yuming, the Dean of the School of International Education. The group explored the 2024 Graduate Design Exhibition and experienced China’s unique intangible cultural heritage—the lacquer art process. This event was part of the "Chinese Bridge—Tribhuvan University Confucius Institute Students' Jiangxi Cultural Journey" summer camp, organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and hosted by ECUT.

The delegation first toured the Graduate Design Exhibition, which featured works in visual communication design, product design, and environmental design. A faculty leader Asst. Prof. Bal Ram Duwal, PhD from Tribhuvan University remarked, “These design works not only showcase the students’ professional skills and creativity but also reflect the profound artistic heritage of Chinese culture.”

Following the exhibition, the group participated in a hands-on lacquer art workshop at ECUT’s Innovation Design Studio under the guidance of Professor Li Junke. Professor Li provided an in-depth introduction to the history and techniques of lacquer art and offered personalized guidance in crafting and painting lacquerware. Participants enthusiastically engaged in the creative process, learning while actively practicing the craft.

This immersive activity allowed the visiting faculty and students to gain insights into China’s traditional craftsmanship while deepening their understanding of the diversity and unique charm of Chinese culture.

At the end of the event, students and faculty from both universities gathered for group photos to commemorate the visit. Both sides expressed a strong desire for continued collaboration and exchange in the future. This summer camp not only strengthened ties between universities in Nepal and China but also planted the seeds of friendship among the younger generation. A representative from Tribhuvan University noted that the exchange was highly successful, providing a rare learning opportunity and fostering closer ties between the people of Nepal and China.

In recent years, the School of Fine Arts and Design,ECUT has actively promoted industry-education integration by establishing nine innovation studios. Among them, the Lacquer Art Studio has earned first and second prizes in the National University Student Art Exhibition. Moving forward, the school will continue to enhance its efforts, providing students with more exceptional platforms for practical learning experiences.
